I had the opportunity to attend the OFSAA XC championships in Brampton to cheer on our Vikes. For anybody that has never been to an OFSAA event... take a look at this video clip of a typical race at OFSAA Cross Country. Approximately 250 athletes in each of the divisions will end up starting a race. Below is the announcement from Coach Ritchie about the two Barrie North Boys who made it to OFSAA.......
The best runners from the province met in Brampton on Saturday for the cross-country running championships. Competition was ferocious and the fields were enormous, with 350 runners in each category bursting from the start lines. Two Vikings earned the right to represent for our region. Connor Raiku had his first taste of OFSSA , and after a rough start in the mass confusion at the beginning, ran to a very respectable finish in the top half of the field. Jon Bunn, in his second OFSSA appearance, finished 58th in his field of 350 runners.
This is an exceptional accomplishment. – the runners at OFSSA are absolutely the elite, some competing at a world class level, and the races are gruelling. Connor and Jon worked hard to be there, and clearly belonged in this elite. If f you see them today, make sure you congratulate them
