BADMINTON ATHLETES HEADED TO GBSSA

Barrie North was represented by 10 athletes at the Senior Central Region Badminton Championships yesterday at St. Joan of Arc.  All of our athletes demonstrated improvement in each of their successive matches and also played with enthusiasm and a sense of fair play.  The highlight of the day was Tammy Do's undefeated record as she dominated the Senior Girls' singles event to win the championship.  Tammy will represent North in the GBSSA Championships at Georgian College on April 23rd.  A very strong performance was also turned in by Megan Stubbs who finished 4th in the girls' singles in her very first badminton competition.  The other athletes who represented North were Peter Corcoran and Cailean Thornton in boys' singles, the team of Jeff Stroud and Daniel Lambert in boys' doubles, Laura Brewer and Tayte Vandelaar in girls' doubles and the brother-sister duo of Korey and Riley Watson in mixed doubles.  Good luck to the 6 members of the Junior Badminton team who travel to Jean Vanier today to compete in their regional championships.

RUGBY GETTING READY

The main gym has been home base for Barrie North Vikings Rugby this month since the snow is hanging around a little longer than last year.  Coaches Alcombrack and Erwin are working with the team to ready everybody for the first game on April 29th against Collingwood on our very own back field.  Good luck on the season to all the athletes involved in the program.

Sports Return at Barrie North Collegiate

Well its been an interesting winter sports season here at Barrie North.  The provincial political situation was such that sports did not run through the winter.  I have certainly fielded my share of emails from parents and staff about when things would change and in what shape or form they would return.

With the news from OSSTF last Friday, extra curricular activities have been removed from the line of fire.  At Barrie North we have several staff members who have decided to begin coaching again.  There is a fantastic article in the news this week about the return to play.  Coach Burk Erwin and several student athletes speak to the issue of sports in schools.

Teams with coaches will be announced shortly.  We hope to have a successful spring season with as many athletes as possible playing school sport.
